The Ho-Chunk Nation (HCN) Pharmacy Department consists of pharmacy operations located at the
Health Care Center in Black River Falls, WI and the House of Wellness in Baraboo, WI.
Each location provides pharmacy services to distinct patient populations, which include
Native American/American Indian enrolled members of any Federally Recognized Tribe as well as non-Tribal
HCN Employees and any person presenting with a valid prescription.
Each pharmacy operation
has two pharmacies within the pharmacy operation area, one State retail pharmacy and one Federal Indian
Health Service pharmacy.
This innovative and complex pharmacy model creates a special opportunity
for revenue generation and enhanced clinical pharmacy services to all of the patients served and provide
the highest level of health care.
Hussain Harun, PharmD, CDE
Clinical Pharmacy Director
Hussain Harun is the Pharmacy Director for the Ho-Chunk Nation. He originally started working for the Nation in 2012
as a pharmacist after earning his
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison earlier that year. He is passionate about diabetes education,
creating new pharmacy programs, looking for ways to add value, and connect with other departments
and divisions within the Nation.
Outside of work his interests include real estate, photography/videography, traveling, and staying active through exercise.
Amber Hanna, PharmD, CDE
Advanced Practice Pharmacist
Amber Hanna is an Advanced Practice Pharmacist who specializes in psychiatry. She began working for the Ho-Chunk Nation in 2010 after earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Pacific University in Oregon. She is dedicated to improving accessibility to psychiatric medication management for the
members of the Ho-Chunk Nation and its employees. Outside of work, she enjoys photography, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
She also likes learning about the
medicinal properties of plants and crafts her own herbal medicine.
One of her goals is to have herbal
medicine options for people utilizing the Ho-Chunk Nation’s clinics.
CAPT Ted L. Hall, PharmD
Advanced Practice Pharmacist
CAPT Ted Hall is a US Public Health Service Officer assigned to the Indian Health Service (IHS) Agency as an Advanced Practice Pharmacist (APP) non-physician medical provider with a scope of practice in psychiatric and substance use disorders. He has served the Ho-Chunk Nation since 2002 first as a staff pharmacist and then was promoted to Pharmacy Director from 2009 to 2019 then transitioned to an APP position. His main practice is in addiction medicine providing medically-assisted treatment for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. He has served on many local, county, state, and federal committees for addiction, including the Office of the White House/Office of National Drug Control Policy National Heroin Taskforce as the IHS Principle Lead. When not at work, he enjoys reading, hiking, kayaking, being very active in Freemasonry serving the community, and attending 8-day silent Zen retreats as an ordained Rinzai Zen Priest.
Melanie Dreier, PharmD
Health Care Center
Melanie Dreier is the Pharmacy Manager at Ho-Chunk Health Care Center Pharmacy. She graduated from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2017 and has been working at the pharmacy since May 2017. Melanie enjoys managing a program called Med Sync for patients with complex medication schedules in addition to helping patients understand how their medications and lifestyle impact their health.
Abigail Moore, PharmD, TTS
House of Wellness
Abby Moore is the Pharmacy Manager at the House of Wellness Pharmacy. She has been working for the Ho-Chunk Nation Pharmacy Division since 2017 and in the pharmacy profession since 2011. She graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2017 and from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2013. She is passionate about serving the Ho-Chunk community by providing Narcan trainings and nicotine treatment services to help those who are interested in quitting commercial tobacco or nicotine products. She also enjoys helping people manage their medications so that they are able to reach their health goals.
Cindy Dotson, RPH
Cindy Dotson is a pharmacist at the Ho-Chunk Health Care Center Pharmacy. She graduated from the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy, and has been a pharmacist since 1989. She joined the Nation’s Pharmacy Division in December of 2017. She enjoys helping people and is certified in smoking cessation as well as motivational interviewing.
Hussein Cheikhali, PharmD
Zain Cheikhali is a pharmacist at the Ho-Chunk Health Care Center Pharmacy. He has been working for the Ho-Chunk Nation since 2018. He graduated from Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy in Alabama. His clinical interests include psychiatric pharmacy and he enjoys helping patients with mental health issues. Zain is excited to make a difference in his patient’s lives by ensuring safe medication use.
Rosie Bertram, PharmD
Rosie Bertram works as a pharmacist at the House of Wellness Pharmacy in Baraboo. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2018. Rosie joined the pharmacy team in 2019 and has worked in the pharmacy profession since 2013. Rosie enjoys establishing relationships with patients and helping to make sure that they are comfortable with using their medications. When she’s not at work, she enjoys cooking and baking sourdough bread, running, hiking, and working outside in the garden.
Heather Gjerseth is one of the pharmacist at Ho-Chunk Health Care Center. She graduated from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2003 and has been working at the pharmacy since November 2019. She has previously worked at other small town pharmacies and rural hospitals. Her passion is performing Comprehensive Medication Reviews (CMRs) for patients with complicated medication schedules. She also enjoys managing a program called Med Sync. This program involves lining up patient’s medications so they can all be filled on the same day.
Sara Gebhardt has been a Certified Pharmacy Technician since 2006 and has worked for the Ho-Chunk Nation Pharmacy since 2014. In December 2018 she graduated from Western Technical College with her Associates Degree and got promoted to Certified Pharmacy Technician Level II. She enjoys learning about the Ho-Chunk culture and helping each individual with their unique needs with her role in the pharmacy.
Pharmacy Provider Network Manager
Heather Marks is the Pharmacy Provider Network Manager at the House of Wellness Pharmacy. She has been employed by the Ho-Chunk Nation since May of 2014. She has a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix. She has worked in some aspect of the health care world, with her primary focus in pharmacy since 1993. She has been dedicated to improving access and bringing the highest quality health care by volunteering for organizations such as the Arthritis Foundation, BSP Free Clinic (Madison) and hospice. She brings that same dedication to the Ho-Chunk people.
Laurie Ammerman is a Certified Pharmacy Technician at the House of Wellness. She has been working for the Nation since 2015. She has been a technician for 20+ years and certified for 19.
Laurie Dionne has been a Certified Pharmacy Technician at the House of Wellness since January 2007. She graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College and received a diploma for becoming a pharmacy technician in 1995. She also took a semester course in EKG afterwards. She feels blessed to be a part of the Ho-Chunk community for many years and enjoys coming to work every day.
Mandi Jaehnke is a Certified Pharmacy Technician at the House of Wellness that happily started working for the Nation in December of 2018 after a years’ worth of pharmacy practice elsewhere. She is certified through the American Heart Association to provide CPR and AED assistance for both infants/children and adults, and is also certified in the use of Narcan. Mandi is passionate about education and learning life-saving skills, because she believes that the more you know, the better off you and the others around you are. She is a proud mom, loves books and music, and will never say no to rollercoasters.
David R. Snowball has been working at the Ho-Chunk Pharmacy in Black River Falls as a Pharmacy Technician since 2018. He originally started working with Ho-Chunk Nation Health Dept. in 2008 in the Community Health Division before transferring to pharmacy. He enjoys helping his clients with their medical needs and really loves the challenge of the fast pace in the Pharmacy Division. While he originally went to school for marketing, he has found his ideal passion in helping others. He is grateful to the Ho-Chunk Nation and the Ho-Chunk Pharmacy Division for allowing him to achieve his passion.
Lindsey became a certified Pharmacy Tech in 2004. She joined the House of Wellness pharmacy team in June of 2020. She has worked in Retail Pharmacies and Long Term Care Pharmacy. She enjoys learning about new medication, keeping up with her education, learning the culture of Ho-Chunk and helping others. She enjoys coming to work every day. Outside of work she like to make memories with friends and family, and is an avid farm girl.
